Bloggers We Love is a place where we feature you! Every Sunday we will feature a new blogger’s website, social media handles, a few of your favorite looks, and a short interview. If you would like to be featured, send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, short bio, and blog URL. Be sure to include “Bloggers We Love” in the subject line.
Name: Kay Lynn & Cari Rene
We have always loved to work together even before the blog came about. As sisters, we are naturally extremely close and enjoy collaborating on ideas and often share our thoughts about business, our dreams and future ventures. We are family first and best friends second, so when the thought came about to start a blog and share Layllah Style with the world, what better person to embark on this journey with. We wanted to bring a new, fresh perspective to blogging in Atlanta and developed our sister blog with that vision in mind.
2. What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a fashion blog?
As a fashion blogger, you have to have a goal in mind and a plan in place to execute that goal. Your goals may very well be different than ours, but you need them because that’s what drives you to success. The blog should have a mission and everything you do should be done with your mission in mind. Do your research– some of your best resources are the people doing exactly what it is you want to start doing. Follow up on some of your favorite bloggers, compare them to each other and identify what you think makes them so successful. A few nuggets of advice before getting started: Identify your personal style, narrow it down, and be consistent with your style esthetic; take great pictures; post consistently, and remember that blogging is all about having fun and expressing yourself through your fashions.
3. As sisters, do you think you two have similar or different styles?
We have different styles, but a similar eye for fashion. We both like simple and chic pieces, however Kay’s style is a bit sexier, whereas Cari tends to air on the side of sophisticated. When we go shopping we tend to stick to the same color palette as one another, but we come to the dressing room in totally different items reflecting our personal style.
4. Do you believe fashion blogging provides many opportunities?
Fashion blogging can absolutely provide a plethora of opportunities and open new, exciting doors. The key is identifying and pursuing your goals with your fashion blog so that you are better prepared for the opportunities to come. We are big believers of ‘You get out what you put in’, and encourage people to chase their own opportunities. The harder you work at networking, self-promoting, gaining awareness, increasing your subscribers/readers and building your social media positions you in a better light to advance your blogging platform.
5. What future plans do you have for your blog?
We blog for fun — we love to get dressed and share our looks and style with the world. The most significant goal for our blog is to become brand ambassadors for major brands as we focus on being recognized as the top sister fashion blog in Atlanta. We will continue to grow our blog and plan to incorporate an element of education for our readers through style webinars and seminars. There is so much to learn about the world of fashion and we love receiving emails from our beloved followers asking us for tips on how to revamp their style, or what we consider to be the top five wardrobe must-haves. We look forward to sharing our tips and tricks with our audience.
6. What are your favorite things to do outside of blogging?
We are both entrepreneurs and are currently working on our own businesses. Kay is a licensed Master Cosmetologist and perusing the venture of opening a cosmetology school here in Atlanta. Cari is the CEO of Marketplace Meet, an online platform connecting emerging brands with top social media influencers to help promote their products and services. Marketplace Meet is set to launch this summer. In between work, we enjoy blogging, traveling, shopping, dining and spending time with our family and friends.
